The majority of people in the world’s biggest economies fear they have just five years before advancing technology makes their job skills obsolete

A new report from the Global Labor Market Conference has found that the exponential pace of technological change has many people in the world’s biggest economies fearful that their job skills will become obsolete in the near future.

The survey indicated that in countries where there had been a rapid technological shift in the last five years, labor market participants had been more inclined to acquire new skills to bridge the gap between current capabilities and the demands of an evolving job market.

Skillsoft research reveals misalignment between organisations’ strategic goals and workforce skills entering 2025

Skillsoft, a leading platform for transformative learning experiences, has released new research exploring organisations’ strategic priorities for 2025 and employees’ preparedness to achieve them. Based on a survey of more than 2,100 full-time employees in the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany, the findings reveal that less than half (48%) of respondents have been informed of their organisations’ strategic goals and priorities for the coming year. Of those who have been informed, only 40% say they are extremely clear about their role in achieving these goals, and just a third believe their skills strongly align with them.

To WFH or return to the office in 2025; That is the question

New research has revealed that one in three businesses are requiring employees to work a full five-day week in the office. The findings by Resume.Org reveal that lease agreements and office utilisation play a significant role in shaping return-to-office policies.

The primary drivers for RTO policies include fostering collaboration and teamwork (69%), improving communication (58%), strengthening company culture (51%), boosting productivity (47%), and maximising office space use (40%). As companies navigate a rapidly changing business landscape post-Covid, will a return to full-time office create a lack of trust between employees and bosses? Or will it create more productive workers?

U.S. worker negative emotions stay above pre-pandemic levels

U.S. employees’ daily negative emotions remain elevated above pre-pandemic levels, according to an update of Gallup’s workforce indicators on employee wellbeing. Although all four negative emotions measured — stress, worry, anger and sadness — peaked in 2020, their latest measures remain higher than data Gallup collected before 2020. Gallup’s indicators also find that employees’ life evaluations have reached a record low.

Workplace interactions play a measurable role in employees’ emotions. Gallup finds that engaged employees are substantially less likely to experience high levels of daily negative emotions than those who are not engaged or actively disengaged at work.

As the conversation around workplace flexibility heats up following the Employment Rights Bill 2024, fresh research highlights Gen Z’s overwhelming support for the four-day workweek as a game-changer for job attractiveness.

A recent poll conducted by Development Beyond Learning (DBL), an international learning and development leader specialising in early talent, reveals 93% of Gen Z respondents believe a four-day workweek would make jobs more appealing. The survey, in collaboration with Gen Z consultancy Thred Media, gathered insights from 200 participants, showcasing a generation keen on reshaping workplace norms.
