IT teams work alongside the business to deliver digital transformation projects

A recent survey shows that the need for digital transformation is seeing IT people working collaboratively with their organisations to improve key areas like operational processes and customer service 

A report from Robert Half Technology indicates a growing rise in collaborative projects involving IT teams with other functions in organisations to implement the digital change necessary for organisations to succeed in our complex working environments.

Around 200 CIOs were interviewed for the survey and 79 per cent reported an increase in their departments’ involvement in business projects in the past five years. ‘Digitally-enhanced selling’ and ‘enhanced customer services’ IT projects were in progress in nearly half of those interviewed. IT directors also indicated an increase in data analytics for performance management (44 per cent) and just over a third (37 per cent) were beginning digital processes to facilitate flexible working. Just over a quarter (28 per cent) said they were applying data analytics to better understand customer behaviour and 13 per cent were transitioning from a physical to a digital marketplace.

In line with the increased demand for digital services salaries in this sector salaries are predicted to rise in the next year – with software developer roles leading the way with a rise 4.5 per cent compared to 2.1 per cent for average professional salaries.

With increased investment into new technology platforms that support key business outcomes, organisations are trying to manage how these services come together to achieve a maximum return.

“The need for agile development and DevOps to support this trend means that IT professionals with strong communication and collaboration skills as well as technical experience and knowledge are in increasing demand. We are seeing a strong demand for professionals with skills in agile project management methodologies, business intelligence expertise and applications support.”
