Westminster Explained is at the forefront of innovative, creative and flexible training. Westminster Explained (Dods Training) was formed thirteen years ago because of demand for training workshops from the House magazine (UK Parliament’s internal journal) on the workings of Parliament and Government.

Since then, we have expanded our product range and established our reputation as the leading private sector provider of learning and development interventions for the public sector in the UK.

Our unique position as a partner to the UK Government

Westminster Explained is the training division of a group of companies, under the umbrella of the Dods Parliamentary Communications group. The core function of the group is to provide communications, information products and services for Parliament and Government. Our colleagues within Dods give us unique access to information, people and development tools which we employ to deliver the highest L&D quality products. This could include:

  • utilising information gathered by Dods Monitoring, Dods People and The Parliament Magazine
  • developing learning points around the views of key figures from their interviews with our sister companies Civil Service World, Dods Politics Home and The House Magazine
  • providing opportunities for staff to attend the conferences delivered by our sister company Westminster Briefing

Creative approach to training

We welcome opportunities to bring our creativity to organisations by developing learning aids which challenge and entertain participants. For example, our ‘Westminster Webinars’ have been viewed as far away as Hong Kong and Madrid, while our ‘Policy portal’ is the most up to date repository for guidance and toolkits for developing policies.

We also reinforce learning by making it memorable – running parliamentary events in Parliament, learning through role play and case studies and interactive workshops based around real life scenarios.
